culture, sustainable development and south african cities

How can working with culture help make more just, inclusive, generative and sustainable cities in South Africa?

Programme

Thursday 22 April 2021
14h00  - 16h00 (SAST)

In this first event towards the establishment of a Local Cultural Governance Network (LCGN) of South Africa (temporary name), recent work linking culture and sustainable development will be explored.  The LGCN is proposed as a voluntary, non representational (individual focused), multidisciplinary network.  It will further dialogue, networking, research and advocacy around the mobilisation of culture in better, human centered, city making. It is aimed especially at supporting local government's mandate to meet the Sustainable Development Goals in South African cities and towns, by furthering it's engagement with culture. It supports and builds on the work of #culture2030goals who are advocating the same issues internationally.
